I had snow much fun…

This weekend London is covered in snow, and as you can probably guess from the post title… I had a lot of fun frolicking around in it. Here’s my snowbear as proof!

I’m very proud of it. HAHA! Hope you’re all safe and warm!

30 years on… RIP John Lennon

I remember sitting in the hallway when I was a child, with my sister, going through a box of LP’s with a record collection owned by my parents, that most people nowadays would be jealous of. We took out a black and white LP, looked at the picture and placed the needle on it. Track one – “Good Day Sunshine”. I remember standing in front of the mirror dancing to it manicly as the infectious vibes and the radiated optimism took over my body. One of my fondest memories to be honest.

The fact that I wasn’t even alive when John Lennon was shot is irrelevant.

I am a musician now, and that partly because of the Beatles. Also Elvis and Jim Reeves, Neil Diamond and ABBA. But mainly the Beatles. A band I grew up with – as a child listening to tapes in the car on my way to school, in my adolescence when I rediscovered Revolver (still one of the best Beatles albums, in my opinion) on my discman and then in my adult life thus far… when a playlist entitled “Best of Beatles” proudly takes its place on my iPhone.

There’s so much to say about John Lennon, but most of it has already been said in one way or another. Therefore, I wanted to share this wonderful mosaic artwork by Paul Van Scott, and leave you to your own memories of John.

“You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one”

His music was and still is inspiration to many artists and for that, I will forever be grateful.

Thank you.

Dr. Mendis? Who knows!

So interesting things happening in my head at the moment. Have got some meetings set up with various Producers – some of which sound more promising than others, but it is ALL happening. I’m very happy about that, can’t complain really!

Also, have been considering doing an PhD in Music which would be very exciting. Have just graduated with my MA in Music Industry Management and Artist Development (see picture below!)… and it feels like I’ve been to a canapé reception and am now ready to order my main. I don’t know if that makes sense, but it does to me.

Those of you wondering how the Frankfurt Christmas market was, I’ve got one word for you: Glühwein! Stay tuned for more news… until then, have a wonderful weekend.

World AIDS Day, 2010

So a more serious, non-dilshini-mendis-music-related post.

Over 90,000 people are living with HIV in the UK and new infections continue every year. World AIDS Day 2010 is all about raising awareness to tackle HIV prejudice and help stop the spread of HIV. The media has an important role to play in raising awareness about HIV, shaping attitudes and challenging stigma. World AIDS Day is a chance to raise public awareness, and hopefully breakdown some of the unwarranted stigma that surrounds HIV. There are many ways in which you can do something to make a difference.

Flight No 915, ready for boarding!

Ahhhh, I’ve been quiet for a while. Simple reason for this being I’ve been flying back and forth a lot from the UK to Germany in the past two weeks. I wish it had something to do with my music, but it was actually for work (Hey, we’ve all got rent to pay!)… nevertheless, I had a great time.

I’ve been writing lots of lyrics lately, which is good… I’m getting excited about going to Frankfurt next week and hope to spend a lot of time at the Christmas market drinking mould wine and eating German treats!

Frankfurt Christmas Market

I shall be back in the studio early december and will keep you posted on the E.P! There’s no point bringing out an EP when XFactor is still on, is there? Still looking for Producers though, so if you’re interested give me a shout. (contact me!)

HAHA!

Day 1: “Thoughts on a Platform”

So, I’ve just spent two hours recording the vocals and guitar for “Thoughts on a Platform”. Gotta say, recording was crazy fun and I’m really happy with the result. Nailed the guitar track in two takes and the vocal in three. Also recorded a cover of En Vogue’s “Don’t let go”, but that was more for fun as I had ten minutes left and there was a piano in the room.

Anyway, here as promised:

Back in the studio.

In the words of Penny Lane from Almost Famous, “It’s all happening!”

Studio time has been booked! YEAH! I’m going into the studio this Saturday and am really looking forward to it. It’s about time that I get into gear with this EP and am really excited about recording again (it’s the little things in life guys, the little things!). I will do some filming as well and post an update on here so that you can see what I got up to and also to follow the progress of this EP and give me your thoughts and feedback as it happens…

Until then!

Upcoming Gig on Friday – Cancelled

I regret to inform you that I will NOT be playing at LOVE LIVE MUSIC ‘Beautiful Electric’ this Friday, due to an illness in the family. I am very sad that I am unable to perform, but in this instance, I am sure most of you will agree that family comes first.

The LOVE LIVE MUSIC ‘Beautiful Electric’ event will still go ahead as planned at the Blagclub, Ladbroke Grove, London, United Kingdom on the 29th October · 19:30 – 23:00, with Inventing Eve headlining and support acts Castle Radio and Sarah Sullivan with Host and DJ Garth ‘Harry Ainsworth’ Cruickshank.

If you have bought tickets for this show already, I urge you to still go, as apparently its going to be a great show. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused by this and hope that I have your full understanding for my last minute cancellation.

If you have bought tickets and are not attending the event, please contact We Got Tickets or click here for some more information.

Thank you all for your kind messages of support…

Rock n Roll,
Dilshini
